Leah Cecil, a Garden Grove native, is a 20 year-old Junior at California State University, Fullerton.  She is currently seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance- Harp.  Leah is on the Dean’s List and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  She studies harp with renowned harpist, Eleanor Choate.  Leah is principle harpist in the CSUF University Symphony, Fullerton College Symphony, the Orange County Mormon Chorale Orchestra, and the Montage Civic Orchestra.  Leah makes a living as a freelance harpist as well, playing at weddings, receptions, and other special events in both Orange and Los Angeles County.  She also plays frequently at the Anaheim White House restaurant for weddings and other events.

Leah has been acclaimed as one of Orange County’s outstanding young musicians as well as an award-winning artist and servant to community needs.  In  2007, her artwork was awarded a scholarship and featured on the poster of Orange County’s Imagination Celebration and was chosen in 2007 and 2008 to be featured at Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters and Art Festival.  The OC Department of Education awarded Leah a scholarship and honored her as one of our county’s Junior Artists.  She was also given a full-ride scholarship to attend Laguna College of Art and Design- Summer Session.

 

Along with her passion for the arts, she has an immense passion for community service.  Her love and fervor for the non-profit organization Compassionate Harps has inspired her to specifically use her talent in music to serve others in need. Leah has raised money and awareness for Compassionate Harps and was even featured on ABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News “Cool Kids” and awarded a scholarship from ABC for her tender work in Compassionate Harps.
 

Leah was crowned Miss Anaheim’s Outstanding Teen in 2007 and won 2nd runner-up to Miss California's Outstanding Teen.  She then returned to Garden Grove to compete for the title of her beloved hometown Garden Grove.  Leah knows that having a charitable heart can be contagious.  As Miss Garden Grove, she plans to inspire the people of this city and others to “catch” the desire to help others in need and plans to demonstrate the beauty in serving others who are in need of peace and comfort.
